Spinach Smoothie! Kid rated 10!

Kid approved spinach smoothie

Want you kids to get more greens in their diet? Here’s a smoothie recipe that is rated a 10+ in this household, so not only does it taste great, but it’s chock-full of nutrition! I make this smoothie for the kids to have for breakfast, lunch, or just as a healthy after school snack.  No matter when it gets served up, it’s devoured.

This smoothie is similar my kale and spinach smoothie, but it doesn’t have the kale or the flax seed in it. I did try to sneak in some flax seed one day, but the kids noticed and didn’t like it.  Oh well, I should be thankful that they love this smoothie though!  BTW, this just isn’t a smoothie for kids, I drink this all the time after the gym for a quick and healthy pick me up!  I just toss 2 tablespoons of flaxseed into my smoothie!

serves 2

  • 1/2 cup cold filtered water  or coconut water
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup organic grapes – I tend to use green grapes, so the smoothie stays green in color
  • 2 fully packed cups of spinach – I really pack the spinach in, so I’m sure it’s a bit more than 2 cups
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • optional for adults – 2 tablespoons ground flax seed

Place the water, pineapple, grapes, spinach and 1/2 banana into a a high powered blender.

Blend away until smooth!

Pour into a glass, add a cute straw and drink up!

See, my kids are really drinking it and loving it.  By the way, I did not instruct them to pose for this picture!

I want to share with you guys a simple lesson about reading ingredients. Here’s my favorite brand of coconut milk, Native Forest. As you can see, they have 2 kinds of the full fat unsweetened coconut milk, one is called simple, and one is classic. The difference here is in the ingredients, one contains guar gum and one doesn’t.

You really want to look at the labels and the ingredients, and not just trust the brand is the same across all products.

I love this Native Forest, Simple, because again it clearly states no quars, and if you look in the ingredients, you’ll see organic coconut milk, organic coconut, filtered water. Simple whole food ingredients, no added fillers, gums, or flavors. You always want to look for a BPA free cans and the USDA organic stamp, which means its certified organic, so there’s no GMO’s, pesticides etc.

What is guar gum, and why is it bad?

Guar gum, which is derived from the guar bean is a thickening agent that can wreak havoc on your digestive system by causing bloating, gas, and discomfort. It can disrupt the delicate balance of your gut microbiome, leading to inflammation and impaired nutrient absorption. It’s also seen a lot in non-dairy creamers or milks.

Easy buckwheat porridge. If you’re looking to switch up your morning bowl of oats, then give buckwheat a try. It has a chewy texture and mild flavor, that pairs with just about anything.

Comment ‘easy buckwheat’ and I’ll send you the recipe.

This buckwheat porridge is SO EASY to make, and is naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan to boot, and the bonus is it takes under 15 minutes to whip up in the morning.

This breakfast is hubby approved. Steve tried this the other day and kept saying, “this is the best breakfast,” “man, this is SO good.” So if I can get my mountain biking, carb loving hubby to happily eat of bowl of this, then I think your family might love this too.

I love topping mine with blueberries, @socotahini and bee pollen!

These vegan Mexican quinoa bowls have become a weekly staple in our house. They’re naturally vegan, but are full of flavor from the avocado tahini, and spicy chipotle tahini sauce.

Comment ‘vegan bowl’ and I’ll DM you the recipe.

These bowls are also great for those that are on the candida diet.

I ❤️ these bowls because they’re jam packed with plant protein, as quinoa is a complete protein, and beans when paired with the quinoa, make a complete protein too. This bowl is balanced and satisfying from the slow burning carbs, healthy fats, plant protein, and will honestly sustain you for hours.

These bowls are a great weeknight meatless dinner option, as I typically make the sauces ahead of time, (they literally take 5 minutes) so when it comes to dinner time, all I have to do is make the quinoa (takes under 20 minutes) and roast the sweet potatoes. I hope you give these a try, and that they become a go-to meatless dinner.

Here’s the perfect snack for those of you trying to cut back on refined sugar. These healthy no bake cacao oat bars are super addicting, once you have a bite, you just can’t stop.

Comment ‘oat bars’ and I’ll DM you the recipe.

The great thing is you don’t have to feel guilty, as these are made with pretty healthy ingredients and are GF, DF and refined sugar free. I love having these on hand for that afternoon, or post lunch craving. They hit the spot perfectly. #healthy #healthysnacks #healthysnackideas #healthysnack #refinedsugarfree #norefinedsugar #healthydesserts #healthydessert #healthydessertrecipes #healthysnackrecipes
This miso tahini dressing is the perfect creamy dressing for warm quinoa or grain bowl, roasted vegetables, really any Plain Jane staple that you want to add a pop of flavor and nutrition to.

Comment ‘miso” and I’ll send you the recipe.

It takes 5 minutes to whip up and uses 6 simple ingredients. It’s also dairy-free & vegan. The dressing gives a digestive boost from the lemon juice and some healthy fats to balance it all.

      1. I can’t get over that your kids will drink a spinach smoothie…that is impressive…for me to get a shot like that I would have had to paint it on my kids…seriously!!!

        1. Do it when they are not around and have it in jug in the fridge for them to drink. I use the stick blender and mashed zucchini and put it in the bolognese sauce when the kids weren’t around. They would eat it and not know till they were teens,

      2. You’ve turned me and my kids onto spinach smoothies! I really expected them to taste, well, more spinachy, but the fruit does the trick. In all honesty, I didn’t tell them until after they asked for seconds what made it green. I’ve been experimenting and they’re a great way to get what we all need into our diets on the fly.

Thanks for sharing! I’m loving your recipes.

        1. Hi Erin! I am so glad to hear that your kids loved the spinach smoothie! Yaay! It’s so nice when you can get your kids to eat their veggies and actually enjoy it! Let me know if you come up with any other smoothie ideas!

        1. Flax seed is a dietary supplement. You can find it at your grocery store where the vitamins are sold. I get the ground flax seed that comes in a bag. The brand I use is Spectrum organic ground flax seed. Flax seed is full of Omega 3’s, it has 3 grams of dietary fiber per serving. I have 2 tablespoons on my cereal or in a smoothie every day and it really helps keep my system regular and keeps my hair, skin and nails healthy. It’s chock-full of benefits. 🙂

      3. This smoothie is delicious. I used frozen organic spinach so I have no idea if I got the quantity right but tasty.

        1. Yaay Catherine! I’m so happy you loved the smoothie 🙂 I never really measure out my spinach either, I just throw in a bunch!

          xoxo, Jacquelyn

      4. just gave this one a whirl and down the hatch – not only do they like the taste the look is so vibrant green, you can call it the hulk juice no problem 🙂 thanks!

        1. Yay! I’m so happy you loved this smoothie girl! It’s a quick and easy way to get some greens into your diet 🙂 xoxo, Jacquelyn
